Recipe for Beauty The recipe for beauty is to have less illusion and more Soul, to retreat from the belief of pain or pleasure in the body into the unchanging calm and glorious freedom of spiritual harmony.~ Mary Baker Eddy
Oil Disolves Oil! Contrary to what mainstream skin care manufacturers would like you believe, did you know that oil disolves oil? It does, which makes it a great cleanser to get rid of oily blackheads. Try a little oil and steam to deep clean your skin with and you'll see those pesky spots disappear immediately!
Age Spots These flat, gray, brown or black spots occur on more than 90% of fair-skinned people past the age of 50. Skin formulas containing maximum strength hydroquinone can gently fade darker skin and age spots. Any suspicious looking moles or spots that have an irregular pattern should be checked by your dermatologist to be sure they're not cancerous.
Quit Smoking Nothing is worst for the skin than the nasty habit of smoking. Not only is it bad for your circulation, cigarettes raise your blood pressure and heart rate and make it more difficult to fall asleep. Many people aren't aware that nicotine is a stimulant and can keep you awake like large doses of caffeine. Smoker's also wake up more in the middle of the night, possibly because of withdrawal symptoms.

Rose Oil
Written by Misty Rae Cech, ND
Ah, Wonderful Rose Oil

If there's an aroma that more individuals find deeply moving than any other, it is the oil of rose. The scent is divinely sweet, rich, and deeply floral - exclusive to the extract of history's most revered flower. Though the rose is renown for it's fragrance, the flower actually contains very little aromatic oil by weight. Some 60,000 roses are needed to distill a single ounce of oil, or about 60 roses PER DROP, a fact which brings the seemly high cost of rose oil into perspective.

The Flower of Love

The hardy nature of the thorny rose bush and the flower's magnificent beauty make it a horticulturalist's dream. The genus Rosa has some 150 species spread around the globe, being cultivated in your grandmother's backyard garden, in vast fields in Bulgaria's Valley of Roses, and everywhere in between.

Roses have somewhat of a unique past, peppered with interesting stories and extravagant displays of affection. The flower's association with devotion was perhaps most wonderfully expressed during the Roman empire, with banquet halls being carpeted with petals. Cleopatra once received her beloved Marc Antony in a room literally knee-deep in rose petals – how's that for greeting? Roses are the unrivaled symbol of love, given dear ones through the ages as an affirmation of true affection. It's no wonder the flower's oil has great healing properties, both physically and emotionally, for the human heart.

Our sense of smell has been documented to directly affect our emotions. Part of our nervous system that helps to control our emotions is connected to our nose. Thus, the proof that using aromatherapy candles will have an effect on our mindset and our emotions. The key is in choosing the correct scent to match the emotion or sense you wish to evoke.

When it comes to aromatherapy there are many ways to get the most out of the aroma, but one of the most popular ways is through dispersing it into the air with candles. Aromatherapy candles aren’t all the same, they can be made in a variety of ways, with different ingredients. You can also burn them in different ways.

Which kinds are better for you? Since paraffin wax candles are said to pollute the air with soot I would advise against it for health reasons. Don’t be discouraged, there are many other types of aromatherapy candles available. Candles can be made with beeswax, soybean wax, vegetable oil or even pure essential oil candles are available. All of these are great choices. They are environmentally friendly because they are derived from natural plant sources. Along with these ingredients, they are also available in different styles, sizes, and scents.

Aromatherapy is a natural healing science employing essential oils extracted from aromatic plant sources to treat and balance the body, mind and spirit. During pregnancy, aromatherapy can prove to be extremely beneficial and helpful alternative, while also being very easy to use. In order to use essential oils safely during pregnancy a few extra safety guidelines will need be followed. Though, there are few reports of side effects, the user must be cautious and report any adverse effects to their physician immediately.

Essential oils are extremely concentrated and volatile. They must be diluted before use. A common dilution for aromatherapy blends during pregnancy is 2%, which would equal approximately 10 drops essential oil to 1 ounce or 2T carrier oil. For an aromatherapy pregnancy bath, add 6-10 drops of essential oil to the tub and mix well before getting in to the tub. 3-6 drops essential oil in a bowl of warm water wrung out in a washcloth works well for a compress. Use the same dilution in a bowl of steaming hot water for a steam inhalation. An aromatic bath is supposed to provide relaxation to the taut pelvic muscles and aid in avoiding stretch marks.

However, there are many essential oils that need to be avoided during pregnancy. The following list contains oils that should be avoided during pregnancy and oils that are recommended for use during pregnancy.
